J. Cuyler Dear, MD

Orthopedic Surgeon

ABOS Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. Fellowship Trained in Sports Medicine. Dr. Dear was born in Amarillo and after moving around Texas and Oklahoma with his family, he settled and grew up in Perryton. There, he was successful in high school sports and was named Valedictorian of his graduating class. He then went on to Texas A&M University where he graduated summa cum laude en route to earning a B.B.A. in marketing while also fulfilling prerequisites for medical school. It was at Texas A&M where he became interested in sports medicine while serving as a marketing intern with the Texas A&M Athletic Department. Following graduation, Dr. Dear earned his medical degree (MD) at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, where he was named to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. His orthopedic internship and residency training was completed in San Antonio under the tutelage of some of the top surgeons in the country. Finally, Dr. Dear traveled west and completed his fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at Kaiser Permanente in Irvine, California. While there, he was the team physician of Santa Ana College, Tustin High School, and assisted Dr. Michael Shepard with covering the Los Angeles Angels. He spent two and a half years in private practice in McKinney, Texas, before moving to Amarillo to start Texas Panhandle Orthopedics.
